When editing a template with comments, there's a suite of comment related blocks to build out post comments. These blocks show temporary content for comment author, date, and content, but as-is these aren't quite helpful enough to gauge what comments will actually look like.

I propose we improve the temporary content of these comments blocks so that when you're building out a comments area for your posts, you see a better representation of what comments will look like. It'll be easier to make better comments designs, if the editing experience was more realistic.

Even something small like a few comments with:

  • Names, instead of "Comment Author".
  • A more realistic comment (perhaps along the lines of why comments are great).
  • An actual comment date (rather than "Comment Date", which will map to the format that you've picked in the Inspector.

Great idea. We could borrow some example content from block previews in the inserter or even unify that somehow.

We never established a good guidelines for block authors on how to best represent placeholders for user content when displaying them in the templates that lack the proper context. Query loop has exactly the same challenge and we shouldn’t use real user date randomly as it might be simply missing, or confusing.
