I created my first Expedition, can help where I went wrong?

Have you added the Expedition information to ExpeditionType.java, Expedition.java?
You should add it to the db coloum dataType as well...
I am not familiar with the specific exception...

try to use some debugging like printing the state of the em to deeply understand where its failling...
